I’m not the best housekeeper. I try.

But when you’ve got 3 college students, 3 kids, a Maltipoo, and one very helpful husband under one roof, cleaning becomes a full-contact sport. We do our best to make it a #teameffort, but let’s be honest, we don’t always win.

My house? Not the cleanest. My floors? Definitely questionable.

But there are a few things I clean every single day, no matter what. They help me feel like I’m at least keeping the chaos somewhat contained even if there are Legos and dog hair hiding under the couch.

Here are my 5 things I clean every day and why they matter (even in this crazy season of life).

1. Kitchen Dishes and Towels

I’m not proud to say it, but I’ve gone to bed with a very questionable kitchen floor more than once. But the sink? That’s where I draw the line.

I can’t rest unless it’s clean and clear of dishes at night. It’s my mental signal that I’m “closing” the kitchen for the day.

As for kitchen towels, they get rotated daily (sometimes multiple times). We touch everything from raw meat to sticky kid creations, and those towels don’t stand a chance.

If you’re also burning through towels like we do, I highly recommend keeping a big stack of durable ones on hand. We love these Premium Cotton Kitchen towels I found on Amazon. They’re affordable, tough, and perfect for a busy kitchen.

2. Throw Blankets

Our family runs cold, so throw blankets are always in use and always on the move.

They get dragged across the floor, crumpled on the couch, and sometimes become fort-building supplies. And with our questionable floors, that’s… not ideal.

So every night, before bed, I make sure all the throw blankets are folded and put away. Even if the rest of the living room still looks a little wild, this one habit helps it feel instantly more pulled together.

Two hands washing a dish on a sink with water running and a soapy dish brush. One of the 5 things I clean every day.

3. The Kitchen Table

Our kitchen table is command central. We eat here, do homework, run businesses, do crafts, and everything in between.

It’s the one surface that absolutely has to get wiped down daily. Luckily, everyone in the house likes a clean table, so this is one chore I rarely have to nag about.

4. The Stove

We cook a lot in this house, even my twins are getting in on the action.

And if you cook, you know… the stove shows it. Splatter, crumbs, spills. It’s a mess by the end of the day.

We can’t turn out the kitchen lights until that stove is wiped clean. It’s one of those little rituals that helps us mentally close the kitchen, right along with the empty sink.

5. The Toilet (Quick Pass)

I don’t deep clean the bathrooms every day (I mean… I have a life).

But I do a quick pass through my bathroom and the guest toilet (which my son uses most often) every night. Just a fast wipe-down keeps things from getting scary between full cleanings.

So that’s it! My list of 5 things I clean every day.

What about you? What daily cleaning habits help you stay somewhat sane in your home? I’d love to hear them. Drop them in the comments! And if you’re looking for more ways to keep life balanced, check out my post on easy weeknight meal planning — because dinner shouldn’t be one more stress!
