Let’s be real — balancing work and home feels like a full-time job all by itself. Between Zoom meetings, helping with math homework, dishes in the sink, and that daily “what’s-for-dinner” panic, it’s easy to feel like I’m constantly behind. Some days, I feel like I’m just treading water with a smile on my face and a tortilla in my hand.
But little by little, I’ve found ways to stay (mostly) sane — not perfect, just functioning with fewer meltdowns.
Here’s what’s helped me stay (mostly) sane lately:
1. I stopped trying to do it all every day.
Some days the laundry wins. Some days work wins. Occasionally, nobody wins and we end up eating cereal on the couch at 8 p.m. And guess what? That’s okay. I’ve started zooming out and looking at the week as a whole instead of stressing over daily perfection. It’s a mindset shift that’s saved me from spiraling.
2. I created a “closing shift” routine.
This has been a total game changer. Just like a coffee shop resets at night, I take 15 minutes each evening to do a quick reset: wipe the counters, run the dishwasher, and lay out clothes for tomorrow. It helps me feel like I’m ending the day with some control. Plus, Future Me always appreciates it.
3. Work hours = work hours.
As a work-from-home mom, this one’s tough. The temptation to multitask is real. But when I try to vacuum in between emails, I end up doing everything halfway. Now I do my best to give work time and home time their own spaces in the day — even if it’s not perfect.
4. I stopped apologizing for needing help.
I used to feel guilty for asking the kids to fold towels or declaring frozen pizza night (again). But I’ve realized doing everything myself isn’t a badge of honor — it’s a fast track to burnout. My home runs better when we all pitch in, even if it’s not “Pinterest perfect.”
Balancing it all isn’t about getting it right every day. It’s about showing up, being flexible, asking for help, and letting go of perfection. Some days will be chaos, but that doesn’t mean you’re failing.
You’re doing more than enough — and if no one has told you that lately, let me be the one to say it. 💛
